Phoenix trial

Well we are supposed to be writing from Sunny Arizona where they are famous for a “dry heat” Right….. It was wonderful weather by our standards for the last day of November, at home it is 15 degrees with several inches of snow, and all week here it was 75 and very nice. So nice we want to relocate the kennel! Well the famous dry heat, was not, it has rained for the last 16 hours, and we were trialing in it for the last 3 and a half hours. We are all soaked to the bone, and frozen, and overwhelmed at the heart of good dogs. There was standing water on the field averaging about 2” and it was soggy and grabbed not only our feet every step but the dogs as well. They were cold and miserable, but laying in a puddle of water in the pouring rain they didn’t break their long downs under distraction. Their heeling was not the best they had ever done, but they stuck with it, and performed correctly. I was proud of them for trying so hard. Then for the traffic portion, it was mud only and walking around in the dark with harsh shadows and lots of people with noisy umbrellas, joggers in mud boots puddle stomping along, it would try the very best dogs, both girls passed and I am grateful for their hard work and heart. We have been blessed to work with such great dogs. Wish us luck as there is much harder work ahead as we chase SchH3!
